This week’s 100 Word Challenge for Grownups is to write a short piece including the phrase “…you bought her what…”
___
“You bought her what all the tutors think she’ll like, but she doesn’t need toys or sweets. Taika conjures playthings from thin air. Her whims command the kitchen. Once she ate only custard for a week. They must keep the king’s pet happy, you see, lest she conjure some beast as rebuke, despite the chains binding her here.”
The former steward fixed my eyes with his rheumy ones, his whiskey breath an assault.
“What she wants,” he growled, “is freedom. Do you have that in your battered little satchel?”

Thanks for the link. My students will enjoy it!
It’s a great idea, isn’t it? I’m going to encourage my daughters to use it, too.
I haven’t been saying much lately, but this was in my email and I have to say, Damn girl. That was brilliant.
Thank you so much, Re. You are so kind.
This was a very nice post. Thanks for sharing. I enjoyed reading your blog today very much.

This starts in such a light hearted way then brings us back down to earth with a bump. Great writing with that moral twist!
Many thanks for the note to your readers! xx
Thanks for the inspiration, Julia!
Yay, a fantasy piece and one of my favourites this week. These 100 words leave me wanting more.
Thanks so much!
Nailed. It. Awesome post 🙂
Thanks, Tori! That’s so nice to hear.
Excellent
Thanks!
A great story.
It conjured up all sorts of images in my head.
A lot packed into just 100 words.
Thanks, Mike!
Loved it! Will you keep going?
You know, I just might. Thanks, Belle!
Creative use of the prompt – this sounds like it could be something much more complex. In just a few words you’ve caught my interest.
Thanks, Judee!
Well written and a great last line – a powerful ending!
Thank you!
Not being a pet person, this is how I feel about all pets. Very nicely done.
