On the one hand

Just got back from a fun weekend with friends in upstate New York. Happy to report that my travels did not interfere with my daily writing commitment.

Today’s writing prompt comes from a photo. This hand stood seven glorious feet tall in the yard of a home we passed on the road today. I had to take a picture:

Here is the prompt:

Write about how this hand came to be in the front yard of this house and the people who put it there. Or, write about the effect this hand has on either the people who live there or a visitor.

Have fun!

Makes me want to go paint some fingernails and a giant blingy ring on that hand!

  2. Might make it look less weird. Well, actually no. Still weird.

  3. A front yard? In LA, this would be a park. The space is huge (like the hand). I vote that it’s a greeting from the homeowners, and as you pass the sculpture, you’re supposed to give it a big high five.

I’m impressed you kept up with your writing commitment while visiting with friends! Impressed!

That hand does not appear too friendly to me. It is more like a 1984-esque reminder that “Big Brother will smack you down.” I think it is that red color…ominous!

This is where David buried Goliath

  6. It’s a huge hand, but it’s shaped like a child’s hand…Hmmm.

  7. Hmmm. I live in a part of the world where an publicly sponsored art exhibit involved dozens of cows formed out of various media and painted to represent the individual artists’ themes. Yes. Cows! I like the hand better. Happy writing!

  8. it would be neat if they had to emerging hands on one end and on the other two emerging feet to make it look like a giant was rumbling from the depths of the ground 🙂 Great Prompt!

It makes me scared to see the companion “on the other hand” piece….

Bright blood red hand…middle of nowhere…REDRUM! REDRUM!

It certainly is not warm and inviting. It is on the freakish side for sure.
